The Kauri Coast Region is unquie to New Zealand and the world we are the only region with a forest of giant Kauri trees

Along with the oldest kauri tree in the world   Tane Mahuta  God of the forest.

Tane has seen the coming and the going of man kind for the last 2009 years.

Today many visitors from all around the world come to the Kauri Coast region to stand before this great tree

and to walk our forest tracks to view these large tall trees.

The longest drivable beach in New Zealand Ripiro Beach   Yes Ripiro beach is 100 km long / longer than 90 mile beach

And is known for it's shipwrecks that come to light every now and again as the sand moves we even have the Dargaville  Museum  that

houses all the pieces of the shipwrecks that have been found on the beach.

Dargaville Museum at Harding park  (NO you cant see a Museum like this  anywhere but in the Kauri Coast Region)

This Museum has the only working Gum washing plant showing how the gum diggers washed gum back in the old days.

Shipwrecks, and all sorts of history that has been uncovered by sand movement over the years.

And now there is also the Vintage Machiney Club in the grounds of harding park. THIS IS A MUST TO SEE

This wreck is only one of about 157 wrecks that have ended up on Ripiro beach and one that was recovered from the beach last year.

Well known / Matakohe Kauri Museum

Each year many visitors come to our region to take a look at the Matakohe Museum housing many displays of the history

of the first settlers to New Zealand the gum diggers and the kauri bush cutters one can spend a full day just looking around

this Museum so don't go home before paying a visit / A MUST TO SEE    you wont see this any place but on the Kauri Coast.

Rick Taylor    Who is Rick Taylor you may say is he unique to the Kauri Coast Region.

Yes he is World Famous and is our wood artist working with the Ancient kauri forest wood / Wood that he has claimed from

Ancient forests around the Kauri Coast Region over the past 12 years. Visit the woodturners studio and Gallery and learn

about the Ancient kauri forests, the gum diggers, and tour his yard and learn how the piece that you are going to buy is

made. This is the only Artists studio and home open to the public in our Region 100% made in New Zealand.

His studio is not a craft shop his work is top of the range Kauri art pieces  Right here at the Visitor Informaion Centre.

See this website and view Ricks works of art in Ancient Kauri and maybe meet the man. Very much a must to see

Now there is much more to see in the Kauri Cost Region so do it from Dargaville.

You will need to stay for a week and maybe come back again to see it all.

We can help plan your time here in the Kauri Coast Region. Email Sue  kauriinfo@xtra.co.nz
